My mother was in town for the weekend and if there’s one thing I can rely on my mother for, it’s that she’ll come help me clean my house whenever I ask (or don’t ask) her to. I’ve been living in my new place for a month now but because I was working three jobs for the last three months, I barely had any time to unpack. So my mother graciously stayed over to help me get stuff done. In return I wanted to make her an amazing breakfast on her final morning as a thank you because even though I am a grown ass adult that doesn’t really need her help, she is always willing to be there. Thank you mom!
I was originally going to make black mimosa’s but my mom doesn’t like champagne so we made black screwdrivers instead! Apparently black food coloring is hard to come by this time of year so we had to improvise by mixing blue, red and green in just the right amounts to get the shade we were looking for. These thrifted flutes made the perfect vessels for our afternoon cocktails.
An assortment of blackberries and blueberries were a delicious treat while we waited for the main course– crêpes!
Here is the crêpe recipe we used if you want to make some too!
- 2 large eggs
- 1 1/4 cups whole milk (10 fluid ounces; 280ml)
- 1 cup flour (5 ounces; 140g)
- 1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter or vegetable oil (1/2 ounce; 15ml), plus more for cooking
- Pinch kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon (8g) sugar, if making sweet crepes
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh herbs, such as parsley, tarragon, chervil, or chives (optional; for savory crepes)

I was so excited to try making crêpes for the first time. My fiance apparently ate them a lot when he was younger but I grew up in the pick your own cereal kind of household.
Okay…so the first round of crêpes didn’t turn out the way we hoped they would but nevertheless, we persisted!
Ahhh, it finally looks like a real crêpe. We hardly had any berries left from munching on them while we were waiting though…
Now for the finishing touches…
VOILA! A crêpe.
My mom enjoyed it so much that she had a second one!
As for me, I hated it. (Obviously)
So here’s to you mom. For all the sleepless nights, the wondering, the worrying and difficult situations you had to deal with. I’m grateful for everything you did and still do for us.
I love you
P.S. Here’s a picture of me and my cat babies because pet moms count too!
